On June 29, King Tut, a 6-month-old brindle and white puppy, had a large cement block dropped on his head while he was sleeping. The injuries to the puppy were fatal. This incident occurred at approximately 9 a.m. behind the Circle Seven Express store at 1209 Mount Olivet Road NE.

The Washington Humane Society and many news sources reported the incident and the community was rightly outraged. Now people who want to make a positive impact can help.

King Tut's memorial is your way to aid the Washington Humane Society in our efforts to educate the community about animal welfare issues, to stop cruelty, and to help prevent future incidents like this, while honoring King Tut.

Thank you for caring!

UPDATE

Thanks to the hard work of our dedicated Humane Law Enforcement team, Sean Delontay Branch, 24, of the 1000 block of 18th Street NE, was arrested July 11 in Clinton, Md., on one count of felony animal cruelty. His preliminary hearing is scheduled July 31. He faces up to five years in jail and a $25,000 fine.

A $2,500 reward is still being offered to any eye witnesses who come forward with information. Contact the WHS Humane Law Enforcement Department: Officer D’Eramo at dderamo@washhumane.org or 202-723-5730 ext. 131.

May this innocent puppy rest in peace, one of God's creatures who died so tragically, this young man who committed this heinous act will be judged, Justice will be served. What goes around , comes around. The punishment fits the crime.

I'm beyond disgusted by this senseless act of extreme violence. There are some truly hateful and mean spirited people in this world. This is why I continute support the local Humane Society and the ASPCA.
