Players Give Paws
Players
Give Paws (PGP) is a program of the Washington Humane Society (WHS) that
recognizes local professional athletes with a love for animals and who
exemplify responsible pet ownership. These athletes are role models for
the community and serve as Ambassadors for WHS as they promote adoption of
shelter animals, spay/neuter, and the humane treatment of animals.
As part of the Players Give Paws program the Washington Nationals have produced
multiple public service announcement ads for WHS including an ad in Spanish.
The TV ads focus on the importance of combating animal cruelty and the joys of
adopting a shelter animal. The Nationals also host four Pups in the Park
baseball games throughout the season where dogs are invited to attend games
with their owners. The Pups in the Park games have been a huge success and
tickets sell out every year. These special games allow WHS to showcase our
shelter dogs at the ballpark.
In the past, pups have also gone to basketball games! The Washington Mystics Barkin’ and Ballin’ games drew big crowds. The games were a fun family affair and the Mystics were great ambassadors for WHS.
Our
PGP partners have also spread WHS’s message in local schools. Star athletes,
including Chris Cooley of the Washington Redskins, Shaone Morrisonn of the
Washington Capitals, and Clyde Simms of DC United, visited area schools, with
their dogs and our Humane Educators, to speak to students about the importance
of treating animals with respect and kindness.
